998 elf engine spec ?
Could you tell me what differences there are between a standard Elf 998 engine and the cooper 998 engine ?

Re: 998 elf engine spec ?
Iain, I don't have the full details, but from memory, the Pistons, Cam and head were all different, as of course was the gearbox
so not a lot in common! but the block, crank and rods might have been the same?

Re: 998 elf engine spec ?
I thought that the elf was up graded to the cooper engine at some point, maybe with out the 295 head ?
I might well be completely wrong ?

No the Elf had the 998 before the mini (they were all running 850s then unless it was a 997 cooper or S). Basically the difference was the pistons, head, carbs, exhaust manifold, clutch back plate (the cooper and S ran the 270), the dizzy. The gear ratios were closer on the cooper too.
The block is the same basic item,as is the rods and crank. The cooling was the same too.
