Roll Cage fitment problems

OK just been trying to put the rear section of the cage back in one of my cars after having had the shell restored. The car has had new floors front to rear and plates welded in the rear pockets for the cage feet to mount on.
I have the feet of the cage in the pockets but then as I try to pivot the cage rearwards the hoop pf the cage fouls the roof so you cant lift the legs into the upright position and get the rear legs on the wheel arches.
Any sensible suggestions / advice , have concluded that I need to cut 0.5 inches of the forward legs of the rear cage and reweld the foot plates in place.
Thanks
