How accurately can glass date a car ??

Post by Andrew1967 »

Have been relocating the original Triplex glass for the pick up and the dates vary quite a bit.

The front screen is circa August 1975, the rear glass is circa Dec 1974 and the door glass (the three I have) are circa December 1974.

The pick up was registered in November 1975 but I don't know if I can get a build date as Heritage have no records.

The wiper motor is dated 9 75 so I'm assuming it was probably built in September or October.

This got me wondering how long glass may have been in 'stock' until used on the production line ?

Thanks Milo, useful link.

I can date the glass, it's more a case of how long could glass be sat on the factory shelf awaiting fitment.

Are we trying to get dated items too close to the build date rather than what may have happened in reality and therefore inadvertently getting it wrong :? :?

I guess some items at the back of the shelf or bottom of the pile could wait weeks or months to be fitted.
