Door step dilemma - help
Hi. Now on my third door step and none fit. The original(unlike the replacements) is a few mm wider in the middle, the first shelf is deeper and so is the little shelf, basically after the top lip it's all crap. I've tried bending them in a vice to fit but with all those bends and the fact they're made out of lasagna they just distort or don't work, especially when bending along that length. Is there anyone who sells one with the correct profile before I throw any more money at it? Failing that, is there anyone who has one from an old mini they'd like to sell or maybe someone can make one? Unfortunately I don't have any serious metal bending equipment to bend that length properly. Anyway, it's getting on my mammaries. Many thanks in advance. Richard

m machine step is ok. It has a little part of the corner beds as well.
If it is only the flat area you require you could use the BMH mk3 step and door post panel cutting off the door post.

Drivers side.
Are the heritage pieces an exact match? All 3 attempts so far have been very poor(one from mmachine). Thinking of buying a sheet metal bender now and making my own, then chucking it on eBay afterwards.
Thanks for replies, much appreciated.

Re: Door step dilemma - help
I've found the full length M-Machine steps to be a reasonable replacement. The convex bends are a little softer than the factory steps which I suspect this is largely down to the pressure that they are formed at.
If you really want perfect MK1 step sills you need to find a set of original panels.
Original step on a '67.

New M-Machine step.

It is possible to fold the profile of a step sill but it may not be possible on most hobby folders because of how close the lowest 2 bends are.
One I folded my self.

Re: Door step dilemma - help
I have used m machine manufactured doorsteps on my mk2 and they have fitted very well, I didn't use the front corner however as I also used their full outer a panel with a post but was very pleased with them. Looking at the picture above they may not be perfect but a lot better than the magnum ones that were on before

Re: Door step dilemma - help
I ended up staggering the cuts on my doorstep rather than a straight cut across the new piece so it was kind of castlated.
This gives you a bit more wriggle room to put small splits in the folds lengthways. When welded up it gives a smoother transition from new to old. Hard to describe without pics.
