Sun visor hole
Hello Guys,
A well known problem with our mk1
The hole for the sunvisor screw had been enlarged by several mounting
Of course I can drill another hole,
But is there an other option?
I was wondering, If I could find plastic insert to put in, and use original screws,
Does someone know where I can find this?
Thank you
Charles

Re: Sun visor hole
Do a search for rawl nuts. These are inserts used where there is no access from the back to use a standard nut. You do need a certain clearance for the length of the insert so not sure if it'll work but they're cheap so worth a try.

I think that as above, rivnuts are probably your best option. Any nylon type plug would inevitably work loose.

Hello Guys,
Thanks for your reply,
I already thought to rivnut but, it's a tidy area
The hole is about 6,5 mm
And the rivnut clamp is too expensive for me
A last idea is a plastic insert "hammered" it could be an option

Re: Sun visor hole
There is a Nylon insert that the screws for the voltage regulator screw into on the inner wing. If you could obtain one of these then I am sure you would be able to adapt one.
I have just checked in the parts list & its part No 13H 226 "Nut-Screw"
A rivnut would be better though, if you can find someone who can put one in for you.
They aren't that expensive;

£11.00

Re: Sun visor hole
The rubber rawl nuts don't require special tooling and are very cheap. If the other two screws are ok this should be sturdy enough. There are dozens of these on the Elise. Granted they are a PITA if they start turning if you want to remove the screw but a dremel cutting disc easily sorts that out.
