Re: spqr shifter
They did work well when all was tight & new. Older units do get baggy though.
It isn't clear from the picture, but I think there is a bit missing on yours. You should have a sort of "end of a gearlever bit attached to the end that replaces the normal gear lever.
Full fitting instructions on the main MK1 site.

Re: spqr shifter
I had one of these in my first mk1 and (maybe it was a bit 'baggy') it was not very precise at all.
I ditched it by first reverting back to the long stick and then by swapping the 'box and putting a remote in.
This also got me a 4 synchro 'box as well.
In order of nice to drive with for me:
1: Remote
2: long stick
3: SPQR (which may be just it being old)

For what it's worth, I think it is nice to see unusual parts being used as opposed to being on the shelf. You "can" get those shifters working pretty well, but then again, if my floor looked like yours . . . . . . . .

Re: spqr shifter
I had one in my 1967 Morris Mini Mk1 and it did work very well.
I those days I did not know it was not a standard thing.
Kees.

Re: spqr shifter
Nick it was OK in the 60s/70s cutting and choppin Mini's about , But today , Its a big NO NO , Polish it up , Clean it up and as been suggested put it in view as a talking point , Again if you want a remote get the complete box .
