Windscreen washer fluid pump questions

Post by zbarbera »

So, I don't know if this just got left undone mid-restoration or what but, I have 2 windscreen washer pumps. And not sure which is correct or where is correct, as I have seen it both ways. But not at the same time!

There is one connected to the switch plate where the heater switch would normally go, I think. This one is actually the one hooked up but is not functioning at the moment, that's a chore for another day!

And the other, not connected, is in the place it should traditionally be.

Which pump is more correct and which placement is more correct? Why would he have been moving to the panel? I've seen pictures of Minis with it there but not sure why.

Note my kickin' radio setup. It's a battle between the Bose and the straight-cut gears. Over 50 MPH the gearbox wins!

And yes, no heater in it. It's down in the barn with an Innocenti heater and fascia.

Your switch panel is upside down and the pump should not be fitted in it.

Your pump bracket is from a Mk 2/early Mk 3.
The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who do not possess it.

The bracket and pump is the same as mine from the MkII Cooper, I would keep that one and junk the switch panel one.

Thanks guys!

Simon, I'm straining my eyes looking at the picture. How the heck can you tell it's upside down?

So, what would the proper pump and bracket look like? To store away for future reference.

The indentation for the choke cable (and the heater cable) should be on the bottom so the knobs pull straight out not at an upward angle.

The pump on the bracket looks to be stuck but the correct part.

I'd guess that is why the one is fitted in the heater operation hole.

The bracket is as Simon pointed out for a later car with the foam dash pad on the lower rail.

This is the correct part for your car:
