I sent off 2 x Speedos for refurb; .. an early 997 Cooper 100mph Speedo "sn4409/08 1408" (without the tenths ) & a 1070 Speedo .. both Speedos came back 100% .. like a prat I removed both Fuel Gauges before i sent off these speedos for repair.. and now realise that my 2 x Fuel Gauges are different so i am not sure which speedo they correctly fit ? ..
One Fuel Gauge has an id.. "FG6233/06" ( this fuel gauge has a thin needle ) & the other Fuel Gauge with id.. "BF6108/00 MM1" ( has a thicker needle) could i ask an expert to tell me what Fuel Gauge correctly fits the 997 cc Cooper 100mph Speedo?
Your help is appreciated.
Norman.

Re: Early 997 Speedo Fuel Gauge ..
If you still have an electric temperature gauge, look at the back of it. The fuel gauge you need will have the same appearance on the rear. Specifically, the thin needle gauge will have a couple of extra parts on the back which will be missing from the fat needle gauge.
If the speedo has a voltage stabilizer for the gauges, the fuel and temperature gauges should be the fat needle type. On the back of pre voltage stabilizer gauges the gauge terminals will be marked T and B.
As I read what I typed I am not sure I was very clear so please ask if this doesn't make sense.

I'm not 100% if this is correct/accurate, but I think the thin needle is for early and pre 64 non-stabilised systems and thicker needle is for later 64 onwards stabilised systems.

The thin needle gauge ought to belong with the 997 Cooper speedo.

The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who do not possess it.

Re: Early 997 Speedo Fuel Gauge ..
Thanks for all your advice .. i checked and the "thin needle" type fuel gauge is from the 997 Cooper Fuel Gauge .. otherwise proven because the thin needle gauge fully floats about when i shake or free move the gauge .. the alternative "thicker needle" type fuel gauge does not move when it is moved about or shaken so that one is voltage stabilised.
Thanks again .. Norman.

3 spade terminals on early fuel gauges and 2 on later ones. Easy .
