Can anyone please offer any advice of best method to join rear quarter vertically behind the b post, I am undecided if to just do a butt joint or joggle the flat area to add a little more strength to the joint
Any advice welcomed, I have still to remove rest of quarter but will fit tubs etc first
I butt welded mine. Made up a 1" wide aluminium former which had 3mm holes tapped in it along the length down the centreline, then bolted the two panels together and MIG welded them together. The former acted like a big heat sink so the distortion was minimal. I Had to adjust the gap and the welder settings for the best results.
I had to add some bracing on the outside to keep the two panels straight before welding.
These couple of sentences make it sound easy but the job took ages to finish! I used a heritage panel which fitted very well compared to the M-Machine version which didn't have the correct curvature in the panel to match the NOS rear panel I used. I still have the aluminium former if you want to borrow it.
