Hello guys,
I have some trouble with my MK2 cooper,
The clutch oil seal is leaking,
I remove the clutch cover (the engine is the car)
Should i remove the engine to remove the flywheel?
How can i remove the old oil seal?

Can be done in-situ.
Take care when sliding the seal over the primary gear, it's easy to damage the seal. Try and get the proper tools or wrap the gear with tape to slide the seal over. While you're at it, check the end float of the gear, too much can cause oil to leak.

I'm pretty sure the GW puller doesn't fit in the car. The Hydraulic ones are the go, never fail.

The easiest way is with a Primary Gear Puller, I made mine about 30 years ago, however these guys sell something similar

As you pull the Primary Gear, the seal will come with it.
Then when refitting the new seal, these are a handy and easy to use bit of kit

It might not, although it doesn't look much bigger than a SP one which does.
Hydraulic are great - but not easy (or cheap) to come by.

I seem to recall John himself saying they didn't fit in car.
Looks a nice bit of kit though.

Does it look anything like this, also made about (almost exactly) 30 years ago?
PGearPuller.jpg
This was made in a bit of a hurry as a primary gear had seized itself to the crank
of the Marcos engine when it was first built.
TOP TIP:
May sound like a stupid thing to say, but don't forget to remove the 'C'-clip
and retainer ring before use or your efforts will be in vain...
(My brother once tried to remove a flywheel using a puller, but forgot to take
the key-plate out first. He kicked himself when I pointed out his problem.)

Ian, very very nice, very nice indeed. Much better than the original BMC tool.
Mine is nothing remotely as nice as that and now I see yours, I'm glad I didn't post a picture of it!
You do realise that I'm gunna have to steal the idea though, don't sweat it, I'll be sure to let my mates know I thought of it

Try and get your hands on a Sykes-Pickavant 851X clutch & flywheel puller kit if you can. I have this kit man & boy over 40 years

No need for a puller! Punch a small hole in the seal then screw in a suitable self tapper screw. Then grab the screw with multigrips etc and yank on it. Viola, seal pops out. Don't mess about with screw drivers, you'll damage something...

If I remember today, I'll post up photos of mine, not nearly as elaborate as Ian's but gets the job done.
I made it probably 30 years ago, long before I had any machines, apart from materials, all you need to make one is a hacksaw (or grinder), a hole saw and a welder.
