Z cars are advertising a Mini with the Ford Ecoboost engine

Is this a good alternative for the good old "A" series?

What is involved in fitting the Ford engine

126BHP in a modern engine setup does sound appealing

Very interesting - these modern three pots are really coming along. The Ford unit has a block the size of a sheet of A4 paper and weighs almost nothing.

I'd be interested to see a conversion for the Mini that uses the BMW B38 1.5 Turbo engine, as seen in the BMW i8. In that car it pumps out 230 or so HP. In the current Mini Cooper it's 136HP. With a load of low down torque, it'd make an original mini absolutely fly!

I couldn't believe it when my other half came home with one of these for a work trip.....A 1.0 Litre Focus, it must be a proper slug I thought....She started it up....3 cylinders?..., I wasn't at all convinced, but having driven it I thought it was a great little engine, 125HP from a lightweight production 1.0L is impressive, I suppose it will remain to be seen if it gives the Ford warranty department a few headaches. Yesterday I drove the new 1.2L 3 cylinder Skoda Fabia......now that is a slug.

3 cylinders bore 71.9mm stroke 82mm....

They also do a Red edition Fiesta with 138bhp (140ps) version of the 1.0l engine.

The engine block is cast iron:

Engine in bits:

Block in carry on luggage, not sure I'd want to lift it into the overhead bin though...

38 psi boost, and 240,000 rpm turbo! Inspired choice of bore and stroke too!
