Turbo cranks CAM6581

Post by Vegard »

I've read this:

http://minispares.com/product/Classic/E ... .aspx|Back to search

And worked with a heap of them. The turbo ones always seem in better shape then the regular A+ ones. Does anyone REALLY know the history about these cranks? They wouldn't have bothered with a different forging/casting number if the only difference was the hardening would they?

Different steel?

I don't have much info on these, but it seems they had normal ground fillet radius on the journals and made from EN16T (which can Tuftrided).

The later Cranks have the Rolled Fillet radii and so was deemed not necessary to Tuftride these, though they are also made from EN16T and can be.

Why did they use a different forging then?

I don't have factory info on that, but going off some of the other things they did, it may have been to distinguish between a ground radius and rolled radius types.
