Original ABARTH vs. RC40 twin box.

Post by jl46 »

Hello All,

Help me decide. We are about to install an exhaust system on my '66 Mk1 1275 Cooper S. I have the Millennium Freeflow (C-STR816) on the engine.

I am thinking I should complete the system with the Millennium downpipe
with the intermediate silencer (RC40-060) and the ss side exit standard bore
tailpipe.

My mechanic thinks I should install an original Abarth center mount free flow muffler made for the Austin/ Morris Cooper S with or without intermediate silencer. Photo attached.

My main concern is the loudness for everyday driving. I will not be racing !

Help me decide.

Jim

center exits are normally loud due to the very nature of them been 'straight through' so that abarth thing must be louder than any twin silencer side exit.

ive never seen an abarth exhaust for a mini, so for that reason alone I think you should fit it!

There's a guy here in Holland selling them NOS for all mini mk1 and mk2 models (and for some other classics aswell);

I'm sure I have a filer for them somewhere in "the archives".

Bu Dum Ching,

Straight to it.

Jees, some of the early scans on the MK1 site are terrible!

I used to have to squash everything as small as possible so it wouldn't break the internet :)

Ha ha - the text on 'Page 47' - "increasingly congested highways"

I bet they couldn't even imagine how they would be in a few years time!!!

I haven't seen one of those silencers since 1969/1970, they sounded superb, especially with an LCB manifold, fit & enjoy! 8-)

Surely it would be worth it just to have a discreet abarth sticker / badge on the car. Much more interesting than special tuning :-)
I've got a 69 Mini with a 1046, Cooper Head and a four on the floor.
