rev counter position and mounting method.....

its at that stage and i need to make a decision. I have my fathers old 1960s smiths tachometer, which despite a bit of water damage has never been fitted.

it comes with the rather basic bent steel bracket although i am considering the minispares pod mount to hide the rusty casing.

would love to see some of your photos and views on best way to mount........

Think I'm going for on top of shelf, as opposed to below top rail, and in a pod........ I would like to use the bracket but it leaves a very rusty tacho case on show. somewhat worse than patina!

I just cannot understand that someone would want the tacho over window rail. It saps a lot of vision. Is this legal?
Get it lower.
It's not like you need to google it 24/7 when driving.

Actually I think if you have to take your eyes off the road to look down at it you may as well not have it.

I moved it there after a bad experience in my S. Going into a fast downhill right hander I glanced down at the tacho. By the time I looked up at the road (fractions of a second later) I had missed my turn in point and a nasty off road excursion followed..

And it only obscures a tiny slice of the road a few meters in front of the car. I know it is legal as the local roadworthy authorities measured it (suspicious B%^$#S).

Its in your peripheral vision.
Its also a personal thing. The tacho mounted on the shelf looks 'tachy' mind the pun.
The only other spot is on the steering column or maybe even in a vortz cluster.
As for blocking vision....meh!!

Mount the rev counter so that the red line is at 12 o'clock. You should be able to note when you are approaching max revs in your peripheral vision. It's fairly common practice in racing to mount gauges so that nominal readings are at 12 o'clock so you don't have to stare at the faces to take it all in. You just glance to see if one isn't right and then decide if they need a good looking at.
