ID this Speedo
Speedo number is SN4409/06 which should be 997 speedo to 100MPH. Speedo came out of a 1071 based on heritage cert. It should be SN4479/20 as far as I know

I'm pretty sure the 997 and 998 Coopers all had 100 mph (or 160 kph) markings, though the 4409 / 06 does come up as a Cooper Speedo. Might be a bitsa?

Definitely a bitsa. There was never a 120 with a 5 digit odometer. That centre itself is rare, as later 997's went to 6 digits.

I am very suspect that this is a bitsa as there are no tool marks on the speedo indicating that it has every been apart, this is one of the last 1071 cars, could if be a leftover that the factory used? Also the shift marks seem like they are not correct.

I agree with the majority that it is a bitsa, no tool marks is not really conclusive.

If it is a bitsa, then what did the 120 portion come from that has such high shift points?

its funny, I was in the pub last night with mark talking about this speedo (sad or what!) and as soon as mark said about the high gear change points I said it would be for a 3.4 final drive, so its nice to know that I was right/am able make educated guesses!nick rogers wrote:The outer, 120 portion, is from a 1071 with 3.4 final drive.
