Body shell differences between LHD and RHD

Post by Gary Schulz »

Can you smart guys tell me what all the differences are between a RHD and LHD body shell? I think they are pretty universal and it is only the ancillary items that make it "handed" i.e. steering rack etc...

Are the shells identical?

Thanks

Just as a trivia item, the last of our (Aust made) shells from 77 to 78 were RHD only

No hole on the left for the column.

I never new that. They must have given up hope of ever exporting to a LHD market by then.

Ha, Goff, you beat me to it!

Rich, yes, they may have saved a whole 10 or 20 cents on the plug, but what did the tooling change cost?

Like I've been saying for ages, it's no wonder they went broke,,,,,,,,,

Talking of grommets, many years ago I had heard that there were some cars produced without holes in the floors for grommets. I felt it unlikely but in due course we broke a Mk 2 that had never had any.
