Can anyone tell me what the differences are between an Austin 1300 transverse gear casing and transfer/clutch housing and that used in a Mini of the same period?
Obviously the final drive ratio is different but what would be required in order to convert one for Mini use in conjunction with the remote gear linkage (pre-rod change)?
Cheers
Jon

Re: Gearbox casings
In regards to the Transfer Housing, apart from a possible crankcase breather being fitted, they are interchangable. If the housing has the cast in boss for the breath and is not drilled, it can be without much of an issue.
In regards to swapping the entire gearbox, that too shouldn't present a problem, apart from the Final Drive as you've already mentioned, it would be worth checking the speedo drive is correct for your application. The Shifter itself mounted a little differently to the gearbox on the 1300, but again, with the matching shifter, no problem. I haven't looked at them close enough, however it may be possible to drill and tap the 1300 diff cap to take the Mini Shifter, not something I've done and this may or may not be straight forward, but could be worth a look.
