A brief history of time- the Mini Van

Post by rolesyboy »

Hi. Can anybody tell me where I can find out more about the changes on early Mk 1 vans ie smooth roof, petrol cap filler, colours etc. I am also interested to find any info about GPO Mini Vans. What colour were they and was there any spec differences? I think I have just bought one and would like to turn to original spec. Cheers. Mark

The main differences in GPO minivans were additional locks. The door window catches must have been changed, but can't remember how. Oh and the screen rubber is fitted inside out, that being the sealing strip is on the inside of the car. Now try doing that.

Fortunately the engine was left alone as the van could reach the required mpg without modification. HA Bedfords came with the smallest carb they could find to get the mpg and were thus a bit asmatic. Bit like driving a 3 cylinder Corsa.

Royal Mail ones would be red and telephone ones would be green.

I have an AKD3401 "The Morris Mini-Van (G.P.O.) Supplement to Service Parts List to be read in conjunction with part no. AKD1799 (First Edition) July 1962".....and would be prepared to sell it.

PM me if interested.

i suppose that it would prevent someone pulling the locking strip out and cutting the seal, but ive a better idea.
