Mini 850 Cooper

Post by FCV.66 »

Hi Mark. You recently sold a Mini 850 Cooper brochure. I assume no such car was manufactured or got beyond prototype stage. Had it gone into production I wonder if the car would have been simply a Super with Cooper badges, or a Cooper (disc brakes and remote change) with 850 standard or modified engine. Can you remember if there were any clues in the catalogue? Would be interested to know. Cheers, Garry.

The Austin Se7en & Morris Mini were sold in most export markets as the Austin & Morris 850. Therefore what we knew as the 997 Cooper was initially marketed as a Austin or Morris 850 Cooper. This was changed a short time later.

It wasn't different in any way to a "Normal" Mini Cooper of the period.
