Hi Guys,
hoping you may be able to help. I believe this could be a common thing however I am new to the magic wand style gearbox. My gearbox develops an annoying rattle through the gear lever itself when left in third or fourth gear, a finger resting on top stops this however it means driving one handed for long periods!
I have been told of people using elastic bands etc to combat this but I was hoping maybe there is a proper cause/fix for this?
Thanks,
Lewis

The "proper fix" for this is a 6" piece of 1/2" heater hose slid
about half way down the stick...

it 'damps' the vibrations down and stops the lever buzzingLuigi64 wrote:Interesting, I will try that. Why does it do this?
a proper 'works' mod!

Re: What causes my Wand gearstick rattle
Using a rubber band or holding it is not a good idea. Doing so puts side pressure on the shift forks causing them to wear out prematurely. Remote shifters have the same problem. The solution for remotes is to wrap a layer of beer can aluminum around the bullet shaped fitting that the ball end of the shifter fits into. I do not know if wands have the same set-up. Wand shifters are heavier than remote shifters so maybe the fix won't work.
