Early heater tap

Con someone kindly post up a pic of the heater tap that would be correct for my February '62 mini please

Fresh air heater, blower under the bonnet, big square SMITHS heater box on the bulkhead ?

If so its a bit like this, tho IIRC on my '63 the early ones worked the opposite way ie pull the knob out to turn the hot water feed off.

Or do you have a fug stirrer - ie the recirculatory heater in which case its the brass tap on the cyl head.

That brass tap; the one on my car had a lever on it which didn't do anything at all - was the lever just for show? 1961 with a fug-stirrer..

Yep,

Thats the one.

The lever turns it off in Spring and back on in the Autumn.

Just check that the spacing of the bolt holes is right for you (if you're looking on Ebay or W H Y).

Can someone let me know which is the correct tap for a 62 mini? I suspect one is probably off a Morris Minor or Austin A35 etc.
Either will do the job but nice to use the correct one. Thanks.

i read somewhere that they did differ slightly

I would say that the one on the right was the more correct of the two. But I have never seen one with the patent info on.

This is going to sound quite nerdy, but Mark gave me an idea. The Ewarts taps and cocks patent application was filed in May 1962 and the final specification completed filed April 1963. It would be unlikely that type of tap would be sold before final specification in 1963. So the tap on the right is definitely not the tap for Chewie Baker's Feb 1962 car. The holes for both line up correctly.
As I said, both do the job ok.

thats what i call going the extra mile for authenticity!

Incidentally, the Ewarts factory on Burnt Tree in Dudley is only a couple of miles from where i work.

A huge Tesco extra 24 hour complex is built on the foundations of the old factory, but nice to know some of the fruits of their labour are still going strong on our minis!
