Mini Beach car going to auction

Post by mab01uk »

"One of the most rare Mini variations is coming up for sale at Bonhams Auto Auction at the Quail Lodge in California on 15th August. Most of these were sent to the original U.S. BMC Mini Franchise Dealerships as “display cars” to generate interest in the U.S. introduction for Minis, including the one coming up for sale."

It will be very interesting to see what that one makes.

Rare, but is there that strong a demand for them?

I guess we will see.

Seeing what else is on offer in that sale my guess is it will go for around $40,000-$50,000. The car is not listed yet so there is no sale estimate.

Also included in the sale, and a great comparison of the value, is a Fiat 500 Jolly with Surrey Top.

There is another Mini Beach Car already in the bay.

Not as classic as the other but still a Beach Car for a lot less money.

I thought the auction house rule was only to sell beach cars at Monaco?

Tha's certainly what we did. :D

Also included in the Quail Lodge auction is a Dunlop Branded Les Leston race suit, ideal for all those nostalgia meetings.

That's silly money, a very easy car to replicate, there will be plenty of them about in a few years if this sells for big money.
I would also expect the correct front panel for that price also.

The blue California car is the one featured on my homepage. I photographed it at MMW in San Ramon a few years back. I see that the seats have been re-upholstered (should be basket weave) and the car is fitted with a black speedo. All these early beach cars were Austins and as such came with cream 90 mph speedos. Nice car though.

Not sure what this Mini Beach car will bring, but the Fiat Jollys have been bringing silly money at west coast auctions.

£108K?!! I'd be expecting beautiful door gaps for that money, or at least some doors! That doesn't strike me as car collector money, I wonder if it's destined for high end corporate work, luxury hotel? Either that or Jay Leno is a fan of wicker?! Anyway, no need to worry about retirement now Ronnie!
