That's unbelievable.
As is this email the seller sent to a pal of mine...
"The body has marching numbers with the engine and transmission. Chassis M.A2.S4 850926 and engine 9F.SA.Y 40958. .... The paint is original and the car is non restored. I'm asking 135000 GBP"
Almost as imaginative as Coys description :
"Due to the car retiring from many of the rallies on minor mechanical issues it competed in, it has resulted in a car of
matchless quality, patina and provenance and perhaps unique in this respect. It is truly a fantastic example of the most famous rally car of all time with BMC Works provenance that campaigned in some of the era’s greatest rallies"
How the hell did they get away with that??
Is there any one part of that car from a works Mini, let alone JMO 969D?

Imagine trying to get the registration JMO969D with that chassis number....
I wonder how the buyer will feel when he gets an age related one with the vehicle type as Morris Mini instead of Cooper S.
Crazy money...

Other than trying to get my money back and, if that failed, I'd be tempted to set light to it and make an insurance claim!

I think it's fair to say that the kind of people who spend six figures on a moody 'works Mini' don't and won't take too much, if any , notice of what they probably see as pedants yakking about the car on a forum. More often than not they are mega wealthy and merely want to park a modest chunk of their wad in blue chip investment. Some will use and enjoy their acquisition like James Martin but even he thinks John Rhodes won the Monte so you can't realistically expect buyers like this to give a shit about the detail!

Pam Ayres is from not far west of Abingdon... (Goosey?)

My mistake, Pam Rhodes is actually the lady presenter of Songs of Praise and not the winner of the 1967 Circuit of Ireland at all .......yes it is confusing isn't it......

Yes, words fail us, and £116,000 is a ridiculous amount for an accumulation?? of poor parts thrown together, but JMO 969D has a continuous history. Not a 20 year gap between 1969 and 1989......

I disagree, given the madness (at least to our eyes) in the classic car market at present, I for one am not at all surprised at the price.
I also think it is a little unfair to dismiss it as an accumulation of poor parts thrown together; granted it is not the most original but JMO is almost certainly the most rallied ex works car of them all. Four seasons on gruelling Motoring News events, generally finishing in the top ten would trash any car. I think some rose tinted spectacles need to be removed, JMO was a tool for a job and used accordingly, not cossetted in a museum or garage. These events were not a Saturday evening tour around the lanes, they were a hard, full on, flat out thrash - all night long. After the rallying finished it was robbed of many bits by Dave Gilbert, its a wonder anything was left at all to export - in 1978.
