Yep I'm taking the Unipower and will be in my alloted garage space (car 71). Up to the scrutineers if they let me run but I can't see it with the roll hoop as is, period defined hoops only go up to period E which is 1961. It'll be nice to take it out anyway, preferable to an empty space so hope to see you on Sunday Bryn if you're about.

You change your plans more than I do, and that's going some!

It was a great event, I was gutted that Mark didn't make it and tried to get him my slot (definately a no-no, once the proggy is printed that's it) but was told about forty others didn't either. Anyone doing an invited championship gets priority and many were so I was lucky. There were lots of people wearing T shirts with Rich's photo on with the slogan "Is it cos I is Yorkshire?" on, so obviously your comments have been spotted Rich.   It's f*cking good job you're not black.

I dragged the Unipower out very short notice so only expected to just park it up and just wander about but took my clobber just in case. Not used it since last Summer  but to my surprise sailed through scruting!  Did practice but didn't cure an annoying misfire which is not what you want on a hill that steep! "Three pot Pete", there should have been a special class. Really enjoyed it I have to say though and am even more confused than I was before as to whether I can use it elsewhere. A lad I was talking to entered Prescott last year in a GTM and was warned he'd not pass scruting next time without triangulation on his otherwise full cage and that was a roadgoing.

Nice to see a few faces off here, Goff, Mick, Ian etc. Learnt a few new thngs while I was there, one is that the main man for archive motorsport photos and my main "dealer" Ted Walker has packed it in after all these years! Gutted! Also found some new photos of the Donald Campbell Radford which I've been promised to be sent by the author of the new book, there was a great display of his other cars there.

I didn't take many pics but will have a go at posting when I sort a Flikr account out.

i went to the vscc at cadwell

it was ace, as usual

methonal, era's, superchargers, chain drives etc - it also rained, which really makes it good

some bloke in a cooper 500 nearly shot himself into space, he hit (or was shoved) into the tyres at barn and ripped one front corner off in the process of clearing the tyres and vanishing into the undergrowth - they had to get the wreaker with the hiab to extract the car!

He's sold it to a French firm by all accounts. :? I've always got on really well with Ted and had alot off him over the years but I suspect the internet's killed it for him cos he never digitised his collection.

I really enjoy the VSCC events and they seem to have a whole lot of fun without any edge to it.

Incidentally Martin Spencer turned up to Shelsley on Sunday in the 1938 GN SpiderII and whilst I heard what the f*cks that thing from some of the other competitors he promptly blasted up the hill in 34.6 seconds on one of our runs and shaved 10 seconds of all the smart arses

Yes - had a great time, rubbish times as every run I hit the brakes too early at Bottom S and caught the man hole cover at Top S. It is STEEP!!!
Also, I was under strict instructions not to bend it as it is my son Johns' car.
May be next year in my 64 'S'
definitely an event to book as a "must do" for 2018.
I thought a bomb had gone off when the Campbell's 700hp aero engined Napier Bluebird fired up in the afternoon
sorry I did not get a chance to chat

I chatted to Spencer Elton at Shelsley who said he was having to change his Memorabilia business. The pitch charges at the bigger events like Goodwood are now huge and the mainly "corporate clientele" have no interest or appreciation of what he has for sale. He is now trading at more events in Europe and the small events like Shelsley where enthusiasts are still to be found.
The internet is all so convenient but it is no substitute for experience and advice. I mentioned I was after a book on Stanguellini Formula Junior's - Spencer was able to give me 4 titles, what they cover and omit, which one is best and how much to pay.

Yes Spencer was also saying the same sort of things to me. He reckons the generation gap is too big for this sort of thing to be of interest to younger people in the future and that alot of the Goodwood crowd really aren't interested in the cars, or his stuff. I agree with him to a degree but then when I look at the stats for my Sporting Minis page on FB the average viewer/follower is ten years younger than me! Quite encouraging I think but then I also realise younger and younger people are not so much in the market to buy Spencer's books anymore, or any books for that matter! Does make you think.

Could that be because the average age of FB users is 30-40 years younger than that of the spectators at Historic Racing Events.
