I suspect that the crank is a bit of dramatic licence, as Speedwell never did an alternative crank for an S.
I already have a good set of Speedwell H4's, but thanks for the offer.

Mollybdenum steel crank, probably refers to the hardening process used

Chrome Moly Steel is an alloy used for nitriding amongst other things, we talk of it as EN40B.
Pinched off the web:
EN40B is a chromium-molybdenum nitriding steel usually supplied in the hardened and tempered condition, which offers high wear resistance together with good toughness and ductility. It is characterised by its suitability for nitriding, which can give a hard wear resistant core in the range of 61-65Rc. The relatively low temperature of the nitriding process produces components with a scale free surface, and minimum distortion.
EN40B TYPICAL ANALYSIS
C. 0.25% (Carbon)
Si. 0.30% (Silicon)
Mn. 0.60% (Manganese)
Cr. 3.25% (Chromium)
Mo. 0.55% (Molybdenum)
