Ebay used to offer buyer protection on all purchases simply by the connection to paypal. If you paid for ebay items by paypal which I always did, you were protected and on the odd occasions my goods either didn't turn up or were damaged/misdescribed I got my money returned. No problem.
Last year a purchase I made never arrived. I informed the seller and ebay and both told me that the courier (Evri

) had "proof" they'd delivered my parcel in the form of a photo of a parcel outside a random front door. I emailed them both with a photo of my own front door which is clearly different and displays the house number but they wouldn't follow up my claim due to Evri's photo! As a buyer therefore I'd be willing to pay for this protection but would be much happier if ebay didn't encourage sellers to use Evri who seem to drop parcels anywhere they can find. We regularly receive parcels for others and if I see the driver and chase after him to return a wrongly delivered parcel they ask ME to take it to the correct address if I know where it is!! Evri, rather than ask their driver to get my parcel back from wherever he'd dropped it, suggested that I should visit all my neighbours and search for it myself!
As for selling on ebay, I haven't listed anything for years until I recently attempted to list a car for sale. Obviously the sale of a car would mean somebody coming to see it and potentially paying me for it (cash or bank transfer probably) prior to collection. However ebay insisted that they have all my bank details first and even requested my log-in information before they would let me place the ad. No thanks ebay. You lost a listing. No way I'm letting you handle my money AND bank details
