Thoughts on this mk1 please-
I had a deal struck to buy this car just under two years ago, spoke to the seller at length and all seemed good, he’d restored it himself with all pics to prove
Couldn’t go up to Leeds to pick it up until following weekend, offered a decent deposit and he said no need,it’s yours blah blah-then two days later get a call saying he’s decided to keep it -yeah right hahaha.
I’d agreed to buy it for 11 grand!
My point to this rambling post is this-is there anything wrong with this car?
Still seems very good value to me, but it’s been hawked around at various prices and by at least one other seller for a while now-
I think it was up for sale at Beaulieu. Looked good but did not look at it closely.

A friend of mine did quite a lot of digging .. I don't think he found anything particularly worrying

Honestly, you need to go and see this one, there a lot number of details not right.
Whether it worth buying and putting right the details will be easier to understand if you see it.
Seems a lot of potential hassle for £27K, £15 to £20k might be more palatable

Yes as I was thinking probably more hassle than it’s worth especially at price. Ideally would prefer one where all the hard work is done !

Any chance of a rough list of the "potential hassles" for those of us less educated???
Cheers, Ian

Looks to be a later 66/67 shell by the safety bosses on the door handles, panelled in boot and courtesy light switches on the door switches but these could also have been changed on the original shell. Reverse rims on an S always ring alarm bells. This needs to be seen. Is there a 190 gearbox? The engine will need to be stripped and checked/rebuilt. The seats look repro and don't look the correct colour red and the grey doesn't appear to have the gold brocade but that could be down to the photo. Plenty of detail points wrong if that is important, speedo, choke cable etc.

As Peter1071 said ……..diff not fitted, wrong tappet chest cover, chrome gear stick, potentially gear stick gator, twin tank potentially…….. no photos of engine bay, rear window looks wrong size (need to check)……….
I tried to avoid a “Wheres Wally” by saying that really need to go and look at it, eye ball the seller, and ideally see the Heritage Certificate, didn’t work though

It is, or was previously, being sold as an early car and should have high seat belt mounts which doesn't seem to be the case

In all fairness, that is quite an interesting bundle. The price is high, but not absolutely extortionate. I have just priced all the items at what I consider to be "fair" prices & come up with £592

Never seen Wipac branded ‘dot’ caps before…
Learn something new every day! Were these an alternate supplier situation?

Mea culpa! I didn't look at the other photos - thought it was just the one Downton brochure

Most parts were at least double sourced. I too had never seen Wipac WCX548's though. Not that I think they are worth anywhere near £250 !!
