CR 1st Motion Shaft

Post by 970s »

Hi, help needs pls, had found some modification on my CR 18 teeth 1st Motion shaft, looks like OE modification, to adapt it to be use in 14mm main shaft, anyone seen the same tricks? IS it common in GT gbox?

The 1st Motion Shaft I'm 99.99% sure is a DAM3167, fitted to the GT boxes from late in 1978 and phased out / finished by 1980. These have a larger bore in them for the later A+ style 18 mm bearing and the matich Main / 3rd Motion Shaft.

However in regards to your 3rd Motion Shaft, that does appear to be a repair, I have done a couple like that out of deperation, but it's easier and usually cheaper to simply fit the DAM7484 3rd Motion Shaft.

Thanks Spider, I think it is much easier to find the A+ third motion shaft nowadays!
You think it is safe to run the box like that for street use?

Al ;)

I've not seen any give any trouble but I have to say, I'm not crazy about them.

I'd suggest if you can find an A+ style 3rd Motion / Main Shaft at a price you can live with then fit that.
