Hi foxy,

If he'd like to unite them with a set of lamps I'm happy to pay a fair price. The lamps aren't especially valuable just different.

Drop me a PM with a suggestion on what might work for him.

I had Yazaki rev counters in my first couple of Minis. they were MUCH, MUCH better than any of the European made options at the time. Being robust, reliable & accurate which is more than you can say for Lucas at the time.

After the disappointment of hydro failure before Blyton the mojo has returned. After some faffing to get the timing right. Lightened fly wheel has no timing marks... She's now starting on the button. Sounding good nice and throaty :-)

Got the chrome sill trim on today, makes a huge difference in the car looking finished.

Just need to add a brake caliper to the drivers front, bleed brakes and clutch and find out where the hell 1st and 2nd have gone. They were present print to refitting the engine ( I checked :-)) so it can't be too serious.

In other news Isaac has learned how the horn works and the neighbours now hate us. Oh well !

Well things went on hold as I've bought another project. This ones a house though (with a proper workshop :-)

But isaac and Claire have set the task of being mot'd for xmas. Last time I had a bit of a running issue with lots of popping through the carbs. I'd left these carefully as set on the rollers or so I though. Whipping the dashpots of showed one jet at the bridge and one 3mm down. So I levelled them at the bridge and set the chokes level.

Check of the tappets showed they needed adjustment.. So they are done and we are fired up. Quote out next door neighbour '.. If that's not shut off by strictly come dancing I'll bloody castrate you ' given its howling with wind and they where indoors then the new single box exhaust seems to be working to make a fruity sound...

Redshed rides again... well maybe... I’ve sorted out the workshop and sold some bits on. Away with work and sat in the hotel bar. Searching to find out if anyone has tried a set Sev Marchals on a works lamp bar and found this thread again. Turns out they do fit. I’ve done it and forgotten.

This weekend should see the hydro brackets back in and the suspension broadly set right. Hopefully i’ll get some guidance from Pete Laidler on this on weds.

Was good to meet albeit briefly Harrysmini today passing on old spares. The garage is tidy and my mojo is back to get this car finished!

I don’t think I’ve run the works bar with over riders before, did the works just sack them off? Or I could notch them to clear the bar.

CLK320 CDI, proper car!

I do like a Mark II, always my favourite Mini and yours looks superb. I always wanted a red/black Mark II 'S' but had to make do with a Mark 1. :(

Sadly the CLK died in a puddle that entailed a window based exit...

Monster car though. 500nm of torque, like being dragged into hyperspace on massive elastic band. Just massive waftey surges of power.

I’ve been off this week travelling but came back and popped this together...

It’s quite aggressive but I think I like it...

Got a few hours to play today. Got the second hydro retaining plate in and pulled the front shocks and bumpstops to get he mr as low as possible for blowing up the hydro. Managed to add a good 1/2 pint to either side and brought the front ride height about
Image

Then stuck a new battery on her. Oil pressure check!
Stuck choke... check.
Can a startyabastard check... fire in the hole! Managed to run for five minutes before cutting out as a blipped it.
Much fiddling later. Seems we lost the spark. Grabbed the multimeter. It’s dead.

Looked over to the workbench and considered how best to resolve this situation. Fitted the grille for the first time in 5years or so and took a brave pill and fitted up the works lamp bar.

And finally with plates and over riders

A clue to the lack of engine running perhaps... we’ve lost spark and we’ve also lost the fuel pump. That should limit it down to a couple of circuits.

So the engine running issue appeared to be a loose king lead, easily resolved. FB from the international minilist popped by (is only been a decade since we spannered on a car together).

So a brake bleeding session ensued, after finding a weepy hose on the rear and good bleed the pedal is sorted. Part of the reason for the hydro pitch came to light as well. The circlips off the helpers are missing and one has popped off. Will sort that at the weekend.

A successful session until time to park up again. Won’t bloody start... maybe it’s not the king lead! LT is fine but no fire in the hole.

Circlip problem Dr S..., While the helper is off I'd just drill through the remains of the circlip recess and use an R clip or split pin as shown in the helper spring modification article. Did mine that way ages ago and ain't looked back since.

Managed to get a day on the car today. We had a bit of a list on with the front sitting some three inches lower than the rear. So we kicked off with taking the drivers side down to atmospheric.

Image

We then hooked up the mityvac to vacuum out. The mity is connected to a t piece one to the pump, one to the car via a bike schrader valve and the other is via a ball valve into a tub of fresh fluid.

A few pumps later... and we have -27” of pressure in the system. Open the ball valve and let it drink...Image
Image

So then we blew it up, and it sat nose down. Peek underneath and the green pool of doom is apparent. So we have a blown unit on the front. Tore down the front suspension. Fitted a new unit. Built up. Further green doom. Time passes. Some swearing. Tore down the front suspension, fitted another unit. Interestingly this one has a much bigger cone than the others. Built up, blew up...

We have a 12.5” on the front 13” on the rear drivers side
And about 13” on the front and 13.5” on the rear passenger side...

That’ll do let’s see how it settles out!

Next job. Sort out the camber and castor. Fit the shocks and comp bump stops :-)

Yep, sort of clear now Doc. You just gotta' do a full semi-tech write up here. Just one Q first though. How does the vacuum maker/Mitivac handle the hydro fluid that gets drawn down - as we see already in the pipe? And how does the clear tubing handle the vacuum part? Great nerdy project

The vacuum pipe is fine -27” isnt that much vacuum. It’s 4mm pipe and it’s quite hard to collapse. The mityvac seems happy enough to spurt out the green juice. It may not be in the tech specs but it works...then rinsed out with water.

So today was meant to be dads and lads at Carnforth banger track. However the snow came in and it just looked too cold for eating chips out side.

So found Issi’s birthday present, put on a car SOS for inspiration. We learned about shock absorbers and then set off to fit some. Learning jack skills and how to use ratchets and axle stands.

Then the question that couldn’t be answered. Daddi why are there spotlights on the shelf and not on the car?

Resulting in this :-)
