Interesting bumpers on the original. It looks like they used quite a few corner bars to make the ends, any ideas on the central pieces.

Wonder why they masked the moustache etc..?

George must have looked cool as milk driving around London in it...

Morris grille must have been his preference..

Didn't realise that John Cooper Clarke had one too!

Come to think of silly paint jobs , our plumber parked near mine and there's me saving up for a new stripe and I got to thinking....

+ Pic of it that the mag cut the top off with sensible hedge

Mind you , found pic of Mini 30 . Been doing silly paint jobs since 1989

That was Radford,s way to do things  all was just masked up.

John Kelly & John Parnell explain it in that nice video about the Adam Adament car.

Speaking off = has anyone downloaded it ? its gone from youtube :(

Wowzer, I knew they omitted painting the boot, interior or underbonnet but didn't think they'd not be bothered to unscrew a chrome moustache or light in order to repaint a car.

I remember Peter Harrison's widow telling me that the boot compartment of his car was still Tartan Red and he painted it blue himself to match the exterior!

Coincidentally I supplied a bunch of parts for the McCartney car when it turned up in Florida. I had a set of mk1 Cosmics in stock but they decided to stay with the Minilites.

The NEC did collect a few Beatles cars together in 2013, no Minis though. The only person capable of doing that would be Lord March I reckon at the Revival and even then it'd be a huge task. I did look into this idea in 2013 and hit a brick wall in a pretty short space of time when I realised Olivia doesn't lend the 'psychedelic' car out for car shows unless it's very high profile. As for the McCartney and Ringo cars... :?:

We may well be getting George's brother Peter's Radford for Blyton. :) plus a couple of other coachbuilt cars.

Great to hear you have some coachbuilt minis heading to Blyton, it wouldn't be complete without 1 or 2 ;-). Not sure if I can make it yet. Would like to, especially if there is some coachbuilts going.

From what I remember at the time of both professional and amateur car resprays in the 1960/70's it seemed standard practice to mask off lights, door handles, etc rather than remove them, the door shuts were also often left out on cheaper 'blow-overs' even during a colour change, unless you paid extra! I also remember a franchised company called Texon where you could drive in and out the same day with a quick respray and or colour change! :o

However I would have expected coachbuilders like Radford to have gone the extra mile......

1976 - "The first Texon car paint shop site opened in Balham, South London in 1976 to provide a guaranteed car respray service offering a wide variety of shades and colours, including the new 'metallic' finishes coming to market. The slogan ' Any car - any make - any colour from £39.50' resulted in queues of motorists looking to use this unique and affordable service."

..and Peter Harrison had to have his repainted (Blue Iris?) within a couple of years due to 'paint issues'.

Not quite as eye catching in plain old white...

Still posh inside though...
