Battery size

Post by almond cooper »

Hi all,

I need to replace the battery in my 63 Cooper, at the moment I have an 038 fitted
Is there a larger, higher out put battery that will fit the battery box? By the way it's still
positive earth.

Regards

Not sure if our numbers are same as yours. I'm thinking 24 F but there is another 24 with a different post location. I like to have all the battery that will fit on the street. Tiny is for the track. Steve (CTR)

063 as fitted to Peugeot 306 Diesels will do the job and has a higher Ah output.

?UK Type? 065 or 075 are popular and fit OK in the box,
but the post configuration may not be right for +ve earth.

If you look into the boot/trunk with the battery fitted to a
-ve earth car, the -ve is closest and to the right, like the
leftmost battery in the wizard above.

You can turn the battery round so that the + is at the back,
but it will then be to the left...

(May be possible to "stretch" the leads to make it work!)
;)

Type 075:
Dimensions 242x175x175mm
Rating: 60AH
CCA: 550A approx

Type 065 dimensions are the same, but a lower rating
Type 027 (Steve's "24"?) same, but taller @190mm, higher rating
Type 063 is smaller and a lower rating.

or this....

(Which actually has the posts the right way round!)

Yep... I'm sure that this was the first size of battery that
my Dad put in the MiniMarcos...

Starting Power (CCA): 430amps
AH Value: 48aH
Average Weight: 12.10kg
Dimensions (LxDxH): 238 x 129 x 227mm
(Source: Halfords Website)

Post position the same as Type 65/75
SLIMMER BUT MUCH TALLER
Lower CCA than 075

NB: A slimmer battery would make the position of the
posts more favourable for +ve earth because it can be
mounted further to the right in the battery well.

It all depends how large you want the battery to be.

An 057 is a good fit, and 049 is slightly smaller, both don't fill the battery box. Now, an 069 will fit and not move in the box, but might be a bit of an overkill.

Thanks for all your suggestions, I settled for a 057 in the end which is the same size as a 053
but with the correct terminal lay out for positive earth set up, it's quite a bit taller than a 038
but you can still get the boot board to fit in.
