The originals of that period were printed paper on a steel sheet with a piece of thin clear plastic over the front, the whole lot was riveted together using brass coloured rivets that looked like an eyelet. After that they were just a plastic sticker that was stick to the car.

Fake Rally Plate
I have several original ones of these. They are "all" metal(tin) with a plastic type coating holding the printing.

Fonts wrong ! Well it's the right font but just it's the modern digital version.

I think 'hard plastic ' says it all not 50's or 60's print technology. On the plus side its not in a BMC box!
