I had added a few pictures on the (Body differences on a 67 thread) regarding differences between the late MK1 and mk11 bodies.
Does anyone know why they added the extra two nuts on the 66 bodies (66 onwards)
The MK1 only used 4 nuts for the white speedo binnacle...the MK11 required 6 for the different binnacle. MK11 has a total of 8 welded onto the bulkhead.
However, the other nuts are a bit of a puzzle...don't seem to be used for anything!!!
There must be a reason...am I missing something?????

Remember, this was BMC. From what I've seen over the years, I am convinced that they had at least one committee (that no doubt included some ladies on the panel) and their job was to look at each and everything on the production line, then change it.
One very small example I noted in our local production that springs to mind is the hole for the door light switch. It's just a hole, no big deal, but around 75 - 76 they moved it down about 1". It worked fine where it was and worked equally as well in the new location. I did waste some time looking at and trying to understand it, I have no answer. But, as small a 'thing' as this was, it would have cost them a king's ransom to change the tooling. And then have to re-deign the wiring harness to make these wires longer, then no doubt train the poor buggers on the line how to fit it all up and on it goes. This is one small 'pissy' example I've noted and I have seen many more than just this.
It's no bloody wonder they went broke.

Re: Bulkhead nuts
I should know this, but cannot recall.. does the MkII binnacle use the same top bolt-holes as the MkI ?
If not; perhaps this is due to the pick-up and van still using a single gauge binnacle as on the MkI. Although it's black, I think it's the same design as the white Mk1.... yes ?

Re: Bulkhead nuts
I had a look at this the other day and can now confirm that the single speedo binnacle uses different top mounting points than the Mk2 3 dial centre cowl.
