Body panels issue, newbie

Post by mbremz »

Hi all

First maybe a short presentation, im Marius aged 40 living in Norway.
I already have FIA HTP racer mini, running it in the Norwegian championship. Build the car myself. So after a few years with no projects I ended up with a 69 pickup. I bought the shell knowing it was abit tired, but not this tired;)

I am changing all the floors including the pickup bed. Also the heelboard ( not sure if this is the correct name )
So to my question, When cutting the rotten steel, there have been 4 very bad attempts of welding on the ends of the heelboard. Where the rear subframe is attached. So I can not see how this was original.

Are there any "connection" between the heelboard and the rear fender, or any other bits that needs to be there?
Anyone got pictures of this or know where I can find some. Google did not help me here.
As it sits now there abit of air between the end of the heelboard and the fender, should there be any connections here?

Trying to upload a pic of the end of the inner sill stiffner panel, this is where im not sure if something is missing.

Tanx

Marius

Pick up closing panels are different to saloon panels.

Mini-Machine sell them. (M-Machine to be BMW politically correct  )

Here's a few pics of that area of my pick up, as just about to weld in a new rear body side :)

The first pic is not the best shot but you should be able to make out that the closer has a vertical at the rear to form the box.

There is a quarter quadrant piece, similar to that on the saloon panel that Smiffy posted the link to that welds to the closer and the rear panel/wheel arch lip.

These Mini Machine panels are not that expensive and fit well.
