Body differences on a 67

Post by Vegard »

If comparing a 67 Mk1 and a 67 Mk2 What are REALLY the body differences.
I know the rear window and lights obviously, but were any other changes introduced at the same time?
Grille fixation?

Here are few items to define the MK11 from the MK1
The fixing screw/nuts that are welded onto the front bulkhead for the binnacle. MK1 had 4....MK11 has 8.
Lip where the front bumper attaches...cut outs for more over rider clearance.
Bonnet doesn't have the round hole under the badge also, a different safety catch design.
Different bonnet latch assembly
Sure there are more.

There is also a larger cutout for the switchpanel, as the whole crossmember for the dash is a little different.

would a 67 mk1 still have the further inset bonnet hinges I know the earlier mk1's had them.

The later Minis have just 6 fixing screw/nuts (not 8) welded onto the front bulkhead.
And to my experience the change was somewhere in 67 or late 66 but not precicely at the changeover between MK1 and MK2. My current restoration project is an early 67 MK1 with 6 welded fixing nuts.

yes, MK1 and MK2 have the more inwards located bonnet hinges. They moved outwards on MK3 Minis.

Thanks guys.

When that is said, I've owned a couple of bonnets With both Mk1/2 and Mk3 hinge mounts. Original?

No, these are aftermarket/reproduction bonnets.

MK11 has 8 welded nuts....there are two high up under the bulkhead...hard to see...that makes a total of 8!
Now, I was not specific about the MK dates...Yes, you are correct about the 67 having six 6 nuts welded onto the bulkhead.
I have two 67's here..Jan 67 and June 67...both have 6 nuts on the bulkhead. I have July 65 and it has 4!
So, somewhere ...maybe in 66 they added the other two nuts.......must have been a reason.
The middle picture is my 65 S with 4 welded nuts.

Another point...this only applies to MK1 prior to 66.
They had different sun visor mounting holes than a MK11. 66/67 are the same as the MK11
65 was very different.
