Restore to new or keep the patina. Which is best?

I prefer to restore to the following condition;

Better than new (All parts as clean shiny & beautiful as possible)

The lucky thing for me is that I am sure a rough bugger that give me 12 months with a car & it looks like it has been on the road 10 years :) So I'm sure that Pat & Tina will be back before long.-

There's ASBO. It was completely restored to being "like new" in about 2002. I was very wary of it rusting like my last one, so I decided to give it a wipe over with an oily rag (cheap 20W50). It started off looking oily and shiny and then got dirty and then it equilibriated to a protective film which is dry and does not pick up dirt, but if you rub like hell, it's new underneath.

That's how it was last time someone took a photo of it.

The problem with trailer queens is that people over-shine them.
