I'm cosidering buying some new wheels and tyres, maybe Rosepetals, but I also love the original look of the 'Mag Minilites' They would be for a road going S to fit without arches.
Are the best (closest) replicas still the Mini Spares 'MiniLife' ones (C-21A1986) ?
I think that's what Tim has on here?
Would these be 4.5 x 10 (FIA), I don't think there is a 5 x10 that would fit without arches?
they are the closest looking wheel to the proper 1960's minilights - its quite common for people to claim that they have genuine 'mags' fitted when they are in fact, the mini spares ones!
they are 4.5" wide and dont stick out the arches
most alloy 4 pots will fit under them as well.
a very good (and cheap) wheel that comes with stainless sleeve nuts
please note, these are my own, individual sales, nothing whatsoever to do with my employer, minispares
Graham, send me a message and I'll respond with pics of a genuine 60s Techdel Minilite and the modern version.... and one of the 4.5 FIA version on my Trav.
The main problem with the modern TechDels is the "Minilite" and size cast into the face of the wheel. I was also a little disappointed by the brassy silver colour (is that a contradiction in terms) they paint them. But I suppose that is easily remedied.. And maybe the marking could be ground off before the refinishing.
I can't help but think that the guy who made the moulds had a stash of originals that he didn't want to devalue

Not a problem, you can order them direct from Minilite without the cast in lettering, we did, as you would expect it costs a little more! The quality of finish on our gold colour Minilites is very good. The Minilite wheel nuts are the same as the original. We have a set of each but neither the Minilifes or the Minilites appear to give the correct front track width (without machining the hubs) as per the Homologation papers hence the reason why most appendix K racers run the Rosepetals. The Minilifes cost less so it seems like the best bet for a road car.
