I'm not sure that exact accuracy was a feature of the British Leyland manufacturing process during the 1970s

They could both be correct.

I've seen original cars with the heights varying.
Ibby look at the photo that I put up of the sets of NOS , the height is determined by the backing paper on the vinyl stripes ,The BOTTOM of the backing paper is the bottom of the door ect , The vinyl as paper both sides , so you remove the sticky side backing paper and that leaves you with outer paper as a template ,They were exact fit without cutting , I suppose the repro ones sold don't have the template.
( something learned every day ), I had forgot how they fitted until i looked at them !!!!!!!!! if you want me to measure the height I will, the backing paper template is also curved for going up the arches, So even the rear portion was handed, Look at the photo that would be the passenger side, So there was a height for the stripes !!!!!!!!

Yes, the original stripe is one piece from arch to arch isn't it ? Then you'd slice either side of the door once on. This also gets the 1275 GT text in the right place.

IIRC the bottom portion is 1" from the paper's edge to the bottom edge of the bottom stripe. So for the repro stripes measure 1" up from the sill seam (I put 1" masking tape along the sill seam and then put the stripe touching that).
I also seem to recall that the top edge of the top stripe is 7.5" long from the front arch to where it stops to meet the text.

Baxter had a long association with BMC didn't he, aside from his drives in works rally cars he was also the man behind bringing live rally action to the telly in 1963, even if it was only in the form of cars going around Brands car park in the snow! All the top factory teams and privateers turned out for that though and it was in essence the start of what became rallycross. I came across a heap of original paperwork from the event on Ebay a while ago, it includes correspondence from the BBC, Baxter, the works teams, privateers like Sprinzel etc, and all the timed results hand written by Baxter.

That '73 F1 footage commentated by Baxter is frightening, look at the state of Silverstone! Probably alot more exciting it could be argued though!
