As there has been a bit of movement recently I thought I'd update this thread. The GTM is over at my parents now while the Frogeye is out and about. DVLA are still taking their time but we've decided to make a start. The gearbox has been rebuilt, head done, 1070 crank machined and after one or two trips to MiniSpares North I have two big boxes of shiny new suspension and engine parts, just the engine to build and that's the big money stuff out of the way, the rest is down to hard work and elbow grease.
My dad and nephew Oliver have been working hard recently chipping the old paint from the shell, the top surfaces were brittle...

serves you right, plastic pig all the way!
You can see in the photo white patches of body filler which indicates where the various sections were put together in the mould. The surface is quite pitted in places and seems very agricultural. The only cracks we've found at the moment are along the top of the front wing, should be easy enough to sort and strengthen from behind.

Removed the screen and dash to to reveal the worlds biggest heater unit...

I actually find in my gtm that the screen doesn't mist up much, or need a complicated load of trunking to the vents, due to the angle of the screen, the hot air that huffs out of the 'car' setting on a normal mini heater rises up past the front of the dash and hits the screen mid point.
I suppose mine helps with the front mounted rad and how its piped, but it gets roasty hot

As with most things on this car I'm not sure it wasn't even connected up, will def be downsizing to a Mini one, or something even smaller, just to keep the screen clear rather than the interior warm.
Are you using the little head/pump bypass hose on the engine Rich?
It looks like the shell was delivered in the naked grey fibreglass as you see in the photos with the glass screen and doors fitted, the owner then masked everything off and painted it. There's no paint under the screen rubbers or door fixings.
There are some quite deep holes/craters in the fibreglass, I'll take some pics the next time I'm over at the garage.

Some missing posts due to the upgrade/downtime which is a shame but here goes...
I've been speaking to Steve about him using my cracked screen as a template to remake some more, there then could be an option to have a heated screen and ditch the heater.
Engine spec is going to be a South African 1098 (1070) crank, +60 1300GT block, modified 940 head and early type gearbox.
Not sure what carb to fit, a webber would be great but might not fit under the original lid without cutting it which I'm not keen on. I could always get another moulded with a bigger lump. This is the Triple C car...

I'm looking into sending the screen to Steve so he can try and get some copies made, I'll prob take two and the CCC guys will have one or two so it should be a goer.

I like that, but a uniform width of colour band around the edge of the front 'grille' opening would look much cleaner, rather than widening out to pick up the indicators.

I don't like the idea of Lotus colours anywhere near a BMC powered car, the Gulf Porsche colours also look really bad on a Marcos. Just sayin....
