Chemical metal?

Post by Gray »

I have a 's' box to rebuild but noticed that it looks like somebody got a bit excited installing the idler gear bearing at some stage in the past resulting in the minor damage shown. The circlip is held but it may be prudent to enhance the lip to stop it pinging into the box at some stage. So does any body know of any chemical metal that would be upto surviving such a hostile environment? Cheers Gray

why don't you just bearing lock the bearing in place with locktite and not worry about the circlip?
should you wish, you can contact me on rich@minispares.com

Chemical metal type products are OK in the right environment, when applied with scrupulous cleanliness.

But swimming in hot oil is not the right environment !

Just drill and tap a grub screw on the back end of it, not to pinch it, but as a stopper. I do use Loctite in gearboxes all the time, as long at the surfaces are prepared OK, it's fine, at much hotter temps it will release.
