Tacho

Post by 1071 S »

Not sure this is really a technical query but..... My 80s Smiths seems to have become a little diseased - or maybe that's deceased...

Anyway, it has decided to no longer work in harmony with the rest of the electrics so probably needs to be retired (testing not yet complete).

So, if a replacement is required, what should I buy?? Stack seems a little like overkill but is there something out there, reasonably priced, that will provide reliable and accurate service??

Cheers, Ian

Have used a couple of these in the past & have found them to be very good.

There is still of course the Smiths classic which is more expensive, less accurate but looks the part

Probably a bit less from Minispares

Has anybody tried the gauge shop ? They have reconditioned rev counters.

Thanks guys, the Smiths (Mspares) 10K version is what I have at present - although its about 30 years old. Once I'm sure that's the problem I'll have it checked out in case its the wiring/installation rather then the instrument itself.

However, in the worst case.....I like the look of the Racetec... but that's not really a good basis for choosing is it...

What about Elliot? DTweeks had one on their website but for some reason it was price on application. Surely they can't be that expensive??

And is Dtweeks a good place to go or are there better options?

I've used Eliot ones before and been very happy with them. I've bought them from Merlin Motorsport
