Which interior trim? November 61 Austin.

Post by gs.davies »

So, now the garage is clear and I can start taking stock of what's what, I've had a look at the interior.

My car didn't have the original seat facings when I bought it, having been fairly well retrained in a ford cloth.

Question is, what trim should it have? The heritage certificate says 'Grey/Red'

The wheel arch covers were old, still glued down and red, suggesting that hey hadn't been changed. The companion bin liners have the cut out for the lamps (lamps were missing) and they were also red as were the door cards. The dash liner had been retrimmed in the same cloth as the seats.

Has anyone got any guidance on this, or some pictures of an restored November 61 car for reference?

I would say that your interior would be red and grey fleck. I have some pictures of cars somewhere and will post some up later when on a quick connection.

I've only ever seen grey door cards etc with the red and grey fleck which is why I'm a bit confused on my car. I think the red cards are original.

Did red and grey fleck come with red door cards?

Could be wrong but I think Austin red/grey fleck interiors had grey fleck cards but Morris red/grey fleck had red cards.

I've had a good hunt through my pictures an can not find any cars with red door cards. I have this series of shots of a '61 Austin I took at Glamis last year showing a very original car.

Interesting. The only bit that I can point to as original is the wheel arch covers which were red. That would suggest red door cards.

Could this be on a change point? Did the austins get a completely red interior, and the build sheet be referring to a mix of grey fleck/red cards?

I had a 60 with a red / grey fleck interior in it & the door cards were red.

I still have the entire interior in the loft somewhere. Its mint, apart from 1 door card is damaged.

Hi,

My 61 morris currently has Red/Grey fleck although I belive it will be different width piping in the seats to that of an Austin.

Interested to see what door cards etc people think they should have as mine came with red companion bins etc pre restoration.

As a data point - maybe a not very useful one - my '61 Traveller has Austin (longbridge?) style red and grey fleck seats with white piping, and red door cards.
