Exhaust silencer question

Post by m1cH1 »

Hello!

I´m searching for a special type of exhaust silencer. I´ve seen it a couple of times on the same mini, but never on any other mini...

What is special about this silencer is that it has a circular circumference and is relatively small in diameter...
The owner of that car told me, that it´s a single box RC 40 silencer and gave me the parts number "C-STR80".
As I´m not able to find anything with this part number: Was there once a silencer with this number, which isn´t available anymore?

I then thought it could be possible that he meant "C-STR809". But albeit it looks on the minispares website a little bit as it could have a round circumference, I have one in my workshop, which i ordered as C-STR809 from a dealer here in germany (who supplies stuff from minispares), which has an oval shape!
Have there been different versions of "C-STR809" over the years? Or is this one actually of a circular shape and my dealer sold me an other silencer under this parts number?

I also made sure, that it isn´t the RC40 middle silencer with a tail pipe extension clamped to it (as the wire clamp cold indicate). It is definitely one single part and the wire clamp is just there to hold it to the mounting block...

As it´s a total mystery to me, I would be very happy if anybody in here could shed some light on the silencer in the picture above...

Cheers, Mike

An RC40 back box is oval shaped. What you have looks a bit like an rc40 middle box

Looks like an Austin Healey Sprite Mk1 silencer with an extended tailpipe to me, as well recommended by the late Clive Trickey, way back in the 60's. I had one on my Minivan!
Edit: I've found a piccy.
