Luminition ign kit problems!

Post by Minisprint! »

I'm having problems with my luminition on my mini van it runs for about 10-15. Then stalls no spark . Let it cool 5 mins then starts up! Replaced the kit with original paints and condenser and it runs no problem so ignition leads and coil are ok. It could be either the main unit or the optical part any ideas?

The thermal cut out kicks in, I had this problem many years ago, I had to isolate the battery and when cool the car would start, eventually I isolated the Luminition box into the dustbin and have run on points since.

Had exactly the same thing with a Luminition set in girl friends mini and a mate had the very same experience with his. Did the same and went back to points, but about 3 years ago fitted a 'brit spark' thing after that and it's been ok ever since. Plus that was under fifteen quid.

On other brands of aftermarket ignition you can create this situation by using a coil with low resistance on the primary windings.
