Automatic Crankshaft.
Trying to find out definitively if the auto crank is the same as the manual crank, I know the block is different but was led to believe the crankshaft (rods/pistons) is the same, although some people are saying the taper is different. Any ideas/input? Ta!

100% the same
auto 1275's are a great source of std/std cranks as its normally the box that goes wrong
ive bought and stripped loads of them - ive paid as little as a tenner for a 1275 a plus auto on ebay in the past!

Thanks Rich, I thought I was going mad...
That's kind of what I thought, and thats why I've got three dead auto's in the shed!
I've got about 8 998's too that were all going to be weighed in, most with "998 gearboxes"

I seem to remember in the dark recesses of my mind that the early Auto cranks were of the EN40B 'S' type cranks? true or false?

Re: Automatic Crankshaft.
The auto blocks can be converted to manual quite easy and cheaply, I converted one in the early 70s , a couple of holes that need drilling for the oil gallery behind the pump , also a spacer made to fit behind the oil pump as the machining is deeper and use 2 gaskets . The 1275 I convert had a odd engine number so I called in at Kennings ,canklow road, Rotherham , the parts department had a guy work there who new every part from memory, he informed me that it was fitted with liners from the factory, fitted as standard from new !!!!!

Re: Automatic Crankshaft.
There were some early auto cranks that were EN16 and had 1.625" con rod journals. I suspect these often turn into EN40B 'S' cranks after a few pints and a few years. :^)
