The question of value

Post by 2010rjd »

I realize fully that values are rather subjective and can vary with region.
What I would like to determine is a fair value of a serviceable 1071 S motor.
What should I expect to pay for such items?
At the minimum that would include block, head, pistons, crank, rods, cam.
It may or may not include a gearbox, dizzy, intake & carbs.
I am interested in the the thoughts of others here on this question as to a reasonable expected range realizing also that specific specs can play a role in this as well.

Like all long time car enthusiasts I have 'scored' a deal or three over the decades and have seen items fetch stupid prices but I tend to throw out the extremes on both ends figuring the real truth and fair value lies somewhere in between.

A short motor would be between £1200 & £2,000 depending on condition, if it was complete I reckon between £1800 - £2,800

All S engines are becoming very hard to find nowadays & command high prices.

I sold one in october of last year ( on this forum ) for £1800

Block , crank , rods , pistons , bearings +thrust all reconditioned correctly , re-nitrided crank , all crack tested etc.

There,s a world of difference between some pile of worn out rust and something that is ready to assemble .
