Flywheel vs starter
Hi Guys..
Got a question i hope someone can help with.
As i know now theres normal 9 teeth on the starter. Just noted thats theres 10 on one of mines.
I guess that would be a problem on the flywheel, as theres a small stange noise when turning.
That can be the problem. am I correct??

Re: Flywheel vs starter
I think there is a difference in number of teeth on starter pinion and flywheel starter ring between the old inertia starter and the later pre-engaged starter.
From memory the pre-engaged set-up has more teeth on the flywheel, this may be your problem if you are mixing different types?

Yes, i though so.. This is the original Lucas m35G. So guess it should be fitted with the 9 teeth then

Lucas inertia starters came in various guises in the same casing. this is from memory, but minis and most things used 9 tooth pinions. Vauxhalls used 10. The mounting flange came in 4 1/4" or 5" and Saabs turned the other way.
Re: Flywheel vs starter
You need to count the teeth on the flywheel, my early MG Metro had a vert clutch and a inertia starter. Iirc the inertia ring gear has 129 teeth.

Pretty sure the pre-engaged starter ring is 129 teeth, and the one for the old inertia starter is 107
