Back window fitting
I noticed that 'Benny' fitted the window rubber to the car first and then inserted the glass, some fit the rubber to the window first and then fix the glass to the car with string. Im fitting a back window tomorrow so can anyone tell me which is the best way??

Re: Back window fitting
It's much easier to fit the rubber to the car, fit the glass then the insert with this type of window seal,

Re: Back window fitting
and spray some WD40 on the rubber to lubricate it - does no harm and any excess just wipes off

Same thoughts here. Rubber to the car, plenty of washing up liquid and then tease the glass into the rubber.

washing up liquid has salt crystals in it - not what you want sitting in the screen aperture lip!!!
also, soapy water (if you do use it) just slithers away from the rubber seal, so you have to use loads - which makes a real mess
the advantage of WD40 is that you can spray it into the groove with the little red straw, so there is not much mess, and any excess WD40 will not do any harm at all to the rubber, paint, trim or anything

And what is the best way to fit the fillet (I hope this is the right word for it)?

As a little extra Phoenix Supplies now stock a continuous rear mk1 rubber
so no join.
I've just fitted one to test for Kaye with no problems

Re: Back window fitting
well the back widow went in a treat this time. WD40 instead of washing up liquid. I put the side in first followed by the bottom then I used a spatular to ease the glass into the rubber. I used the special tool to put the filler in and again, lots of WD40. Thanks for the advice everyone.

When I had my E-type, I wasn't brave enough to re-fit the windshield myself, so I hired a professional. The extent of his tool kit was a hook for pulling the rubber over the glass, and a can of WD-40. He sprayed that sh*t all over the place, and I was sure what it was going to damage SOMETHING. before he left, he wiped everything down, and there was virtually no trace of it within a day or so.rich@minispares.com wrote: the advantage of WD40 is that you can spray it into the groove with the little red straw, so there is not much mess, and any excess WD40 will not do any harm at all to the rubber, paint, trim or anything
