Here are a couple more pictures from today; all now fitted and back on the car. Just the addition of the wheel nuts has set them off very nicely i think :)

(Sorry about the poor quality/lighting, but I am having to do everything inside a garage with the door closed so as not to give the game away!)

great thread this.. just re afirms my long held belief that no modern (post 80,s wheel design ) comes close to those made in the 60,s or 70,s.....the styles and designs and for that matter copies are crap compared to those avail 35+ years ago.... foxy52

I don't agree, the quality of most modern wheels, be they copies of 1960's designs or whatever are far superior to most of the wheels made in period - just look at that set of mystery rosepetals that someone posted up here the other week that looked like they where porus they had so many air holes in them! - you just wouldn't be able to get away with selling wheels of that dubious quality now a days, that's for sure!

id also argue that the minispares minilife design wheels stand up as a classic wheel - they have been available for 15 plus years and many cars are fitted with them! I would go as far to say that they are a perfect wheel, the flat edge rim design and the shape of the spokes is far prettier (and more period looking) than the modern minilight wheels.

I think its great that such a great range of wheels are avaible now - it certainly gives people the option of been a bit different

Minilites and Rosepetals were pure mag and prone to "pumice" corrosion/porous castings.

JAP's were different (were they LM-9)....they are some mag/alum alloy which was very strong and resisted corrosion. Pearce got their casting technique pretty good....or they remelted the rejects.

I have seen some shocking minilites which have made it onto people's cars....they really are dangerous.

..I said style and design ?! nothing about quality,..thats as maybe..though I remember ordering a set of wheel nuts and spacers that were from mws d 1,s that don't fit or work thread or depthwise with original d1,s that I own from manufactured in 1969....foxy52

...misplaced quote .. as per above I said style and design..??!! nothing about quality..though many many mini parts available these days are pure rubbish !!...manufactured in asia..e,g humpback rads etc..nothing like n.o.s or decent used parts though this is not the point I was originally trying to make... the 60,s and 70,s wheel designs were undoubtedly the best looking !!!....foxy52

Hi!

To drag this one up again; I recently got hold of a set of similar wheels but made by Remotec. Late 60's early 70's I think.

Remotec was a german wheels manufacturer. I think they were amongst the pioneers of aluminium wheel manufacturers in germany, introducing theyr first wheels in 1968. And one of the Remotec guys joined forces with another guy and together they started a company that still exists today; Ronal. There's a mention in this article here: http://www.hemmings.com/magazine/hsx/20 ... 48639.html

Remotec was still up then, there are a lot of more or less tastefull aluminium wheels form the late 70's and 80's around. That's about all I know.

And speaking or Ronal; 5x10" Ronal. I think the similarities are quite obvious :)
