Tappet chest bolt seals

Post by Gray »

According to AKD3509 the tappet chest retaining bolts just had a washer behind the bolt head, should there have been a seal too?? It looks like later cars may of had what looks like a cup washer with a seal?? Gray

Yes, later cars with the convex tappet covers should have the cup and the rubber seal while earlier (concave) tappet chest covers were only fitted with a washer.
But you can fit the cup with the rubber seal to an early car and no one will notice. Don't forget, early covers need longer bolts and a dose of patience to keep the gaskets in place.
